Djiguemdé Roger’s paintings are a cross between the old and modern, and they compare the realism of nature against the abstractness of humans.

Roger is a Burkinabe painter who trained at the Abengourou Art Center in Ivory Coast and completed an internship with the Pyramid Atlantic in Washington D.C. It was here when he started to develop his style and incorporate abstraction into his works.

The first thing you notice when looking at Roger’s works is how maximalist it is. It’s extremely vibrant, but each subject is still clear and doesn’t overpower the others. The artist’s work usually includes animals and people, which are a reference back to his hometown (Ouagadougou) and his deep love for his culture. He includes traditional African architecture such as rondavels in the background as well.

Djiguemdé's art has gained international recognition, leading to several exhibitions across Africa, America, and Europe. His work is featured in numerous prestigious museums, including the Musée d'Arts Naïfs et Marginal de Béraul, the Musée d'Arts Naïfs in Laval, and the Musée d'Arts Naïfs Vicq en Yvelines in France. Most of his collections are in France.

Roger has had a huge impact on the art world and gained attention, especially after receiving renowned awards and donations from big organizations like UNICEF and giving a lecture at Harvard University.

Djiguemdé has been bridging traditional African art to contemporary expressionism since the 90s, but his work won’t stop just yet. Since 2008, Djiguemdé has been living and painting in Paris, France.
