Have you heard of an artist that uses your memory? Circe Irasema does.
Circe Irasema’s path to becoming an artist was more or less conventional. She got a visual arts degree at the Arts and Design Faculty of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and National School of Painting, which allowed her to intern at a museum. These experiences helped her become a full-time artist.
Irasema is most interested in the process of recalling memories. Incorporating mundane objects, she hopes to evoke nostalgia and one’s past. And she wants to bring our attention to everyday things that go unnoticed.
The artist also deconstructs artistic cliches by using abstract visual elements such as color, composition, etc.
Nuevos Clásicos (New Classics): series putting paintings into albums (2021).
